A MOTHER
Gifted beautiful children,
And they're mine.
My God!
How could I have neglected them
All this time?
I want to give them the love
They should have been getting all along.
I have to make them see that my absence
Wasn't because of any thing they did wrong.
I want to be a mother to my children,
Defend them to the world!
Say "NO," You can't do this or that,
This is my boy, my girl!
Sometimes I think about just sitting
And watching them sleep,
Being ready to pounce
Should the boogie man
Make the slightest attempt to creep.
I want to be around,
Ready to kiss away their tears,
want to be around,
To try and ease their fears.
I want to share their joy,
Put a band-aid of their pain,
I want to gain their respect and their trust again.
I want to be a mother, as well as a friend.
I never want them to go
Where I've been.
I hope I'm not too late,
Hope they haven't already stepped through hell's gate, but...
If it is so,
I not only need to be their mother and friend,
I'll need to fall to my knees and pray
That Father keeps and eye on them,
And gives me strength, and helps me
In guiding them in every way.
Children, I'm asking for another chance
To become a part of your life.
Please forgive me
For the neglect and strife.
I want the chance to be your mother,
the chance to love you
And for us to be there for each other.
PLEASE?
