OUTSIDE THE PALE
by Allison Scruggs
Penetrating is this darkness
That influences & deceives,
It subtly corrupts our morals
And distorts what each believes.
Our reasoning gets tainted
And our thoughts become unwound,
Now susceptible & relenting
We are dominated & bound.
With vital principles discarded
When we needed them the most,
Who we truly hoped to be
Now haunts us like a ghost.
So, pretty soon the bad in us
Will far outweigh the good,
But, by then we wouldn't change it...
Even if we could.
